Die Tageszeitung” (or “taz“ for short) is a national German daily newspaper described as green-left, left-alternative, and critical of the system. Founded in 1978 after the “Tunix Congress” in West Berlin as an alternative, self-managed project, it was published by the association “Freunde der alternativen Tageszeitung” until the end of 1992. Since then, “taz, die Tageszeitung Verlagsgenossenschaft”, which was specially re-founded to guarentee publishing independence in an existential crisis, has acted as publisher.
