Maxim Gorki Theater

Maxim Gorki Theater

“Maxim Gorki Theater”, located at Singakademie on the boulevard Unter den Linden, is the smallest and most beautiful of Berlin’s ensemble theaters. Founded in 1952 as a theater for the contemporary, it has since been a city theater in the best sense of the term for Berliners, critical and also rebellious.

Artistically directed by Shermin Langhoff and Jens Hillje since the 2013/2014 season, the theater and its multilingual acting ensemble tells stories of today’s heterogeneous society in contemporary plays as well as new interpretations. In 2014 and 2016, German-language critics voted Gorki Theater “Theater of the Year”, and it was also awarded the “German Federal Theater Prize” in 2016.

Every year, Gorki Theater stages around 500 events and employs a total of around 190 permanent staff.

Maxim Gorki Theater is home to renowned directors, including Yael Ronen, Nurkan Erpulat, Sebastian Nübling, Falk Richter, Sebastian Baumgarten, Hakan Savaş Mican, and Ersan Mondtag.
