Campaign weeks under the slogan “Zusammen gegen Rassismus in Wedding & Moabit“
Since 2017, local non-profits, initiatives, and organizations, which have jointly founded an alliance encompassing twenty-four entities in the previous year, have been hosting the International Weeks for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination under the slogan “Zusammen gegen Rassismus Wedding & Moabit”. This year, the program consists of a total of 57 events, amongst them work shops, readings, screenings, theatre and many more, to set a strong signal against racism and discrimination in the district and beyond.

+++ONLINE ACTION CAMPAIGN+++ Demonstration on March 21, 2020, in Rudow CANCELLED
UPDATE March 12, 14:00
Based on the current general ruling concenring large-scale events due to the Corona pandemic, the organizers of the demonstration on March 21 in Rudow have decided to cancel the demonstration. However, in the light of the ongoing series of right-wing extremist assaults, the racist terrorist attack of Hanau, as well as the racist media reporting of the COVID-19 virus spreading, it is vital to unite and set a strong signal. The alliance conferred and now call to take a stance on oaacion of the Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.

For several years, there has been a demonstration taking place in Berlin-Rudow for the occasion. This year, the alliance Bündnis Neukölln as well as the initiative “Rudow empört sich“, together with many supporters, call to join the online action campaign.
The call is supported by a broad alliance of civic organizations, alliances, and political parties. The action takes place in the light of the as of yet unresolved series of right-wing extremist assaults against politically involved individuals in the district. The local branches of the public library Stadtbibliothek Pankow will host a series of events on occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.

Background information regarding the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination
The United Nations General Assembly first proclaimed the day in 1966, calling on the international community to redouble its efforts to eliminate all forms of racial discrimination. Since 1979, the United Nations furthermore invite their members to host yearly campaign weeks to show solidarity with the opponents and victims of racism.
In Germany, the International Weeks for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination are taking place for the 25th year in a row. In 2020, they are celebrated under the slogan “Gesicht zeigen – Stimme erheben”. For further information, see the respective foundation’s website at.
