Heimathafen Neukölln

Heimathafen Neukölln

WE ARE COMMUNITY THEATRE!

Since 2009, Heimathafen Neukölln stands for new community theatre from Berlin. A diverse program of theatre productions, musical theatre, concerts, readings, and novel show formats lent a voice to one of the most diverse of Berlin’s districts, Neukölln, which is characterized by a cross-over of styles, genres, and cultures. With our motto WE ARE COMMUNITY THEATRE! we continue, as well in the year 2012, to realize our aim to redefine community theatre, filling it with life in a provocative and controversial way.

COMMUNITY THEATRE IS OUR PHILOSOPHY, KARL-MARX-STRASSE OUR BOULEVARD.

In 2007, Heimathafen Neukölln raised its flag for the first time in a vacant dive bar on Richardstraße. In 2008, the former post office building on Karl-Marx-Straße became our temporary stage, and in April 2009, the fabulous Rixdorf ballroom became our safe harbor. We wish to not only get near our neighbors here, but embody them and create Berlin’s new cultural heart together with our neighbors of Neuköllner Oper.

WE MAKE THEATRE FOR AND WITH THE CITY TO CREATE NEW COMMUNITY THEATRE.

Community theatre and Neukölln have always belonged together. The former Rixdorf quarter on the outskirts of Berlin stood for the people’s amusement. “In Rixdorf is Musike”, there is music in Rixdorf, not only was a well-known folk song but a way of life which drove many Berliners into this working class quarter for the weekend. Heimathafen Neukölln wishes to revive the air of that era by restaging plays of community theatre and linking them to the present day.

And most of all, by creating a place where Berliners and their guests find a piece of home. A place where the creative collision of genres becomes possible again. Performing arts, youth projects, musical theatre, revue, children’s theatre, dance, concerts, parties, poetry slam, boxing matches, and so on and so on…
