Protest events against right-wing extremism in advance of the European elections on June 9

Update +++ June 2 – 8, Berlin-wide–A broad alliance is calling for nationwide protest events against right-wing extremism ahead of the European elections. A large rally on Saturday, June 8, at Großer Stern will mark the culmination of the campaign in Berlin.

A broad alliance of civil society organizations is mobilizing nationwide for demonstrations under the slogan “Stop right-wing extremism – defend democracy” ahead of the European elections on June 9.

The call states:

We stand up for a democratic, open-minded, and diverse society, for peace and freedom, diversity, and human rights, the preservation of human dignity, economic security, and social justice. Now, in advance of the European and local elections, it is more important than ever to take a firm stand against right-wing extremism. We are united against it across the entire democratic spectrum.

Sunday, June 2, 2024, Pankow, 18:00

The initiative “Unsere Straße bleibt hell”, which organizes Sunday rallies in several Berlin neighborhoods, is holding a “neighborhood protest event against hate and hate speech” one week in advance of the European elections. In Pankow, neighbors have been organizing since January to campaign against right-wing extremism and racism and for democracy. On June 2, at 18:00, they will meet in Bötzow/Winskiez (Arnswalder Platz), Florakiez (Florastraße/Görschstraße), on Helmholtzplatz, in Niederschönhausen (Hermann-Hesse-Straße/Waldstraße), and on Blankenburger Dorfanger.

Some concerts are also planned. Further information can be found on the initiative’s Instagram profile. The neighborhood groups are open to anyone wishing to get involved or start an initiative in their own neighborhood.

June 2 to June 9, 2024: campaign week by „Die Vielen“

As part of their “Shield & Shine” campaign, the initiative “Die VIELEN” is organizing a campaign week under the slogan “EUROPA DEN VIELEN” from June 2 to June 9. The events range from protest festivals, network meetings, and flash mobs to panel discussions.

Saturday, June 8, 2024, 14:00 main protest event at Großer Stern at Tiergarten

The highlight of the mobilization will be simultaneous rallies in Berlin, Leipzig, Frankfurt, Munich and Stuttgart on Saturday, June 8. Many of our partners will be taking to the streets in Berlin.
There will be an event for children and families from 13:00 before the program starts at 14:00 with speakers and music. The full schedule and further information on the Berlin demonstration.

For access by public transport, use Bellevue S-Bahn station, Hansaplatz U-Bahn station (U9), or walk from the main train station, or Brandenburger Tor S-Bahn and U-Bahn stations.
The initiative “Die Vielen” will also be supporting its own campaign week against the normalization of right-wing extremism with a participation in the rally as Glänzender Block. Meeting point is at 13:00 at the campground opposite HKW – Haus der Kulturen der Welt.

Saturday, June 8, 2024, 16:30 – local protest in Friedrichshagen

An hour by public transport from Großer Stern, the neighbourhood association Friedrichshagen Solidarisch e.V. is organizing a demonstration and a concert in the district of Treptow-Köpenick.

The demonstration under the slogan “Friedrichshagen für Alle – Rechtsextremismus abwählen!” starts on June 8, 2024 at 16:30 with a kick-off rally at Friedrichshagen S-Bahn station and ends with a closing rally and lots of live music at around 20:00 on the market square.
