The contact and counseling center for refugees and migrants, “Kontakt- und Beratungsstelle für Flüchtlinge und Migrant_innen e.V.(KuB)”, is a recognized non-profit organization since 1983, its task is to provide refugees and migrants from all over the world with counseling and assistance in social and residence law, psychosocial, and further existential issues. The basic objective of KuB is to enable those seeking advice to manage their lives in Germany independently and self-responsible.
KuB’s methods are based on holistic social work that understands the subject at the center of its activities. KuB works with volunteers in holistic individual case assistance, which is oriented towards the respective needs and wishes of their individual clients. KuB offers a wide range of projects on site to provide support, assistance, and to promote integration.
Open counseling on asylum, residence, and social law as well as psychosocial counseling takes place on the premises of the association. This is supplemented by decentralized support and counseling services in Brandenburg-based refugee accommodations. Following the counseling, accompaniment to offices and authorities, lawyers, etc. is organized. This can usually take place in the respective native language, since KuB provides support in more than twenty different languages, including Arabic, Dari, English, Farsi, French, Russian, Serbo-Croatian, Spanish, and Kurdish. Many of Berlin’s standard services do not provide this kind of language mediation, which is sensitive to the needs of the target group.
In addition to its daily counseling services, KuB has initiated a number of projects that have promoted the cultural, socioeconomic, and psychosocial integration of their clients in recent years, such as language and communication courses in German for adults and young people, literacy courses for adults, art therapy programs with children, as well as the establishment of an audio library for Persian-speaking blind people.
